Meet our panelists:
Angela Harper, Wake Forest (’17)
Angela Harper (they/she) is a 2017 graduate of the Wake Forest Physics Department, who received the 2017 LeRoy Apker Award for their work on laser-printing flexible electronics. Angela then went on to pursue a Master’s of Physics at the University of Cambridge as a Churchill Scholar, and is now a final year PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge in the Theory of Condensed Matter Group as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Angela’s PhD has focused on studying Li-ion battery materials using atomic level simulations, and connecting theory with experiment by predicting experimental spectroscopy. As a Gates scholar, Angela has worked with the local Cambridgeshire community in developing a plan for decarbonisation, which was implemented at the local level in 2020, and has focused their work on connecting academic developments, with real-world implementation. Aryemis Brown, United States Air Force Academy (’21)
Second Lieutenant Aryemis C. Brown is a space operations officer assigned to the United States Space Force currently reading for a Master of Philosophy in International Relations at the University of Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship. Aryemis was the outstanding military graduate and a distinguished graduate from USAFA where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies and Humanities and minors in Religion Studies and Philosophy. While at the Academy, Aryemis commanded the Air Force Cadet Wing as the commander of troops, serving as the highest-ranking cadet, responsible for the welfare of 4,400+ personnel. His overall order of merit, combining athletic, military, and academic factors, was 3 of 1,059. He was named a Truman Scholar in 2020 from Maryland, where he graduated from high school with entrepreneurship distinction.

Meredith Paker, University of Georgia (’16)
Meredith Paker achieved her PhD at the University of Oxford in 2021 and is currently an economist with the federal government. Meredith earned a Master of Philosophy with distinction in Economic and Social History from the University of Oxford in 2018 and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Georgia in 2016. She was named a Stamps Scholar and University of Georgia Foundation Fellow in 2012 and a 2016 Marshall Scholar.

Amytess Girgis, University of Michigan (’21)
Amytess Girgis (she/her) graduated from the University of Michigan in 2021 with a B.A. in Political Science. She is now studying politics at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Prior to Oxford, Amytess worked in political communications and organizing for the labor movement, among other causes.
